LumenRadio Aurora: Wireless DMX for Lighting Designers
Fewer cables, faster rigging, more creative freedom
Every lighting designer knows the moment: the perfect position for a fixture, and no sensible way to get a DMX cable to it. Long cable runs cost time, money and rigging effort, and they limit where you can put light.
Wireless DMX removes that limit. LumenRadio’s CRMX technology is built into more lighting fixtures than any other wireless DMX technology, and A.C. Entertainment Technologies is LumenRadio’s exclusive distributor in Ireland.
Who are LumenRadio?
LumenRadio is a wireless technology company headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, with offices in Germany, Norway and the US. It made its name in entertainment lighting when its technology ran the lighting at Coachella wirelessly, without interference.
Its CRMX technology has been the choice of the entertainment lighting industry for more than a decade. Over 200 manufacturers build it into their fixtures, so many of the lights you already spec can receive CRMX with no extra receiver.
What is Aurora?
Aurora is a single-universe wireless DMX/RDM transceiver: one box that can transmit or receive. Set it up as a transmitter at the console and it sends a universe over the air. Set it up as a receiver at a fixture or dimmer and it outputs that universe as DMX.
- Protocols: DMX/RDM, sACN, Art-Net (v1–3), CRMX and W-DMX G3/G4s
- Protocol converter: the 5-pin XLR works as input or output, so Aurora can turn sACN or Art-Net into DMX and back
- Set-up on the fly: colour screen and rotary knob on the front, plus the CRMX Toolbox app over Bluetooth 5.0
- Network: 5 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n/ac) for sACN and Art-Net
- Performance: 5 ms latency, forward error correction and 128-bit encryption at full refresh rate
- Power: DC 10–20 V or AC 100–240 V via powerCON TRUE1
- Rigging: M10 and 3/8″ threads, with rack and wall-mount accessories; 14 × 20 × 4.4 cm aluminium housing (IP20, for indoor use)
Why lighting designers should be using it
Put light where the design needs it, not where the cable reaches. Fixtures on set pieces, balconies, trees or moving scenery become simple to control.
Rig faster and strike faster. Wireless DMX cuts cable runs and the time spent on them, which matters on tight load-ins and touring schedules.
Trust it on show night. CRMX was built for crowded radio environments. Forward error correction keeps data flowing, and 5 ms latency keeps cues tight.
Work with the fixtures you already use. With CRMX inside fixtures from over 200 manufacturers, Aurora often only needs to be at the transmitting end.
One box, many jobs. Transmitter, receiver or sACN/Art-Net-to-DMX converter, all from the same unit. That makes Aurora a flexible addition to any rental stock or venue kit.
Change settings without a laptop. The front-panel screen and the CRMX Toolbox app make linking and troubleshooting quick at the desk or up a ladder.
Where Aurora fits
- Theatre: practicals and fixtures on moving scenery, or front-of-house positions where cabling is impractical
- Concerts and events: delay towers, set pieces and quick-turnaround venues
- Film and TV: fast relighting on set, with no cable across the shot
- Architectural and installations: heritage buildings where cable routes are restricted
Need more than one universe? Stardust transmits up to eight CRMX universes, and Luna is a compact single-universe unit. Both are also available from AC-ET Ireland.
